A week after meeting Stella, she started contacting me frequently.
"Cole, there's a new movie out. It looks really good. Want to go see it?"
"Cole, do you like Hunan cuisine? I know a place that's amazing."
"Cole, my office gave out a ton of tea. I don't really drink it. Can I bring some over for you?"
Tea was my absolute favorite, something Zoe had always known.
Seeing Stella's message, my heart stirred, and I replied, "Does your office give out tea every year?"
Stella replied instantly. "Yeah, I save it up every year. I don't drink it, but it's good tea. Do you want it from now on?"
Stella and Zoe worked at the same company, so their office gave out tea every year.
Zoe knew I loved tea more than anything, but she had never once brought any for me.
Not once in five years…
Thinking back, in those five years of tireless effort, I had gained nothing.
I didn't reply to Stella, but she found me after work.
The moment she saw me, she explained frantically, "I wasn't trying to ambush you. You didn't reply, so I thought I'd just bring the tea to you…"
Seeing her nervous expression, I couldn't help but laugh.
I thought, having a cute girlfriend like this might actually be fun.
Stella gave me the tea, and the next day I asked her to see a movie with me after work, one I had been wanting to see for a long time.
I loved the experience of watching movies in a theater. I had asked Zoe many times before, but she always made excuses. Going alone felt pointless, so eventually, I lost interest.
Yesterday, while scrolling through my phone, I saw that the movie was being re-released.
Since it was an old film, there weren't many people. The seats around us were empty, and the environment was very comfortable.
Towards the end of the movie, I suddenly heard a soft laugh. It sounded familiar.
I instinctively looked over and saw the profile of a face in the row ahead. I didn't need a second look to know it was Zoe and Jayce.
So, it wasn't that Zoe didn't like watching movies; she just didn't like watching them with me.
But now, seeing her, my heart was calm. The old flutters were gone.
When the movie ended, Stella and I were walking out side-by-side and ran right into them.
"Stella?" Zoe called out, her gaze then falling on me, instantly deepening.
Stella smiled and nodded. "Zoe, you guys came to see the movie too?"
Zoe held Jayce's hand tightly. "Jayce said this movie was good, so I came with him."
Zoe's face was filled with a gentle smile as she spoke, an expression I had never seen in the five years we were together.
Perhaps because she had found true love, her usually cold eyes now sparkled with a soft light, the curve of her eyes wider than ever.
I could see her love for Jayce, which made me feel even more ridiculous for the past five years.
I gave them a brief greeting and then said to Stella, "Let's go."
Stella immediately said goodbye to Zoe and followed me out of the theater.
We passed a boba tea shop, and Stella glanced at it, so I went in and bought two cups.
I specially ordered a taro milk tea for her, and it was still warm in my hand.
"The AC in the theater was too strong, your hands must be freezing. Do you like this flavor?"
Stella held the tea, smiling and nodding. "I love it."
My phone suddenly buzzed.
I opened it. It was from Zoe.
This was the first time she had messaged me since Jayce came back.
"Did you have fun watching the movie with Stella?"
What did she mean by that?
Was it a sincere question after getting rid of me, or a sarcastic jab because she couldn't stand to see me happy?
I didn't reply. A moment later, another message from Zoe arrived.
The words were explosive.
"You and Stella are so close now. You've already done it, haven't you? What position did you use?"
I stared at the words on the screen, thought for a few seconds, then typed a reply and sent it.
"What position? You want me to send you a video?"
