Traces that time cannot erase

Chapter 9

Kaelan’s eyes, filled with murderous intent, bore into Sienna. His voice dripped with revulsion.

“Sienna, you just can’t stand to see Bianca happy, can you? You’d even stoop to this! I never knew your heart was so poisonous! To actually hire someone to…”

“If that’s how you want to play it, then you can taste your own medicine!”

Kaelan was going to lock Sienna in the room with the man.

The sleazy man was writhing on the floor, clutching himself, still spewing vile curses.

Sienna’s mind was on the verge of shattering. She begged Kaelan, her voice laced with utter despair.

“No! I didn’t hire him! Kaelan, you can’t do this!”

“Kaelan! I swear I didn’t! That man, he was just… If you lock me in here with him, you’re sending me to my death!”

She scrambled forward, grabbing onto his pant leg, her cries like the mournful shriek of a crane, every word a drop of blood.

“Kaelan, don’t leave me! I’m scared!”

It was as if he didn’t hear her. He slammed the door shut.

The click of the lock was a death sentence.

She slumped to the floor, staring blankly at the door.

The man on the floor had already scrambled to his feet. “You bitch, I’m going to make you pay for that today!”

Sienna’s fingers suddenly closed around a shard of glass from the broken jar. She gripped it with all her strength, blood seeping from her hand.

She slowly raised her arm, pressing the shard against her own neck. Her gaze swept over the man, then slowly turned to the security camera in the corner of the room.

This whole thing could have been cleared up by checking the camera footage. But Kaelan had listened to Bianca’s side of the story and instantly condemned her.

Five years. What did it all mean?

Seeing the blood on her neck, the man fell silent.

The room had a camera. He had taken Bianca’s money to take a few compromising photos with this woman, maybe grope her a bit for his own pleasure. He never intended for anyone to die. Seeing Sienna like this, he didn't dare move another inch.

Sienna’s heart was a barren wasteland.

Two hours later, Jenna rushed in and set her free.

Sienna’s eyes were unfocused. She just quietly hugged Jenna.

Jenna’s tears fell, her voice pleading.

“Sienna, say something. Don’t scare me. Please, if you’re hurting, just cry. Please?”

Sienna shook her head. Her face was as pale as a sheet of paper, a wilting flower that had lost all its life.

She wasn’t sad.

As dawn broke, Sienna watched the faint light on the horizon and smiled.

As she smiled, tears fell. Her voice was as light as a butterfly’s wings.

“Jenna, I have to go. You once asked me if I regretted being with Kaelan. I always said I never would. But last night… I truly regretted it. I really did.”

“I’m leaving. Take care of yourself.”

Jenna choked back a sob, unable to speak. She just nodded and took her to the airport.

As the plane tore through the sky, Sienna sat in her seat, tears streaming down her face, a smile of anticipation on her lips.

At the same time, Kaelan left the villa and drove to the lounge from the night before.

For some reason, an inexplicable panic had been gnawing at him all morning.

He had taught Sienna a lesson last night. She should have learned her place by now.

But when he arrived, he found the lounge door was already open. He angrily stopped a waiter.

“I told you not to open this door last night! Who opened it?!”
