After the Divorce, My Ex Begs Me Back

Chapter 3

I stayed at Sofia’s for two weeks.

During those two weeks, I watched Isabella’s social media updates every day. And in every single post, there was a shadow of Dante.

【The city lights are bright, but my Don shines brighter.】

The picture was a selfie of Isabella, with Dante’s back visible in the corner, taking a call in front of a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the city.

【The Moretti name always shines, and I will always follow the light.】

The picture was of a signet ring, the Moretti crest, on Isabella’s hand, sparkling under the light, with a pair of long, masculine fingers in the frame.

They were Dante’s.

【My Don is showing me the world!】

The picture was taken in a private jet.

Isabella was smiling brightly, next to a sleeping face in profile.

One post after another.

It made Sofia pace back and forth with rage. She pointed at Isabella’s feed and cursed, “That fucking bitch! Is Dante Moretti so fucking blind he can’t see this conniving snake has ulterior motives? A goddamn dog could see through her act!”

Sofia was furious.

In contrast, I was calm.

It was like I was finally getting through the withdrawal period. In the face of Sofia’s rage, I offered a serene analysis.

“Dante knows exactly what he’s doing.”

“He knows?”

Sofia sat down next to me.

“Then what the hell is all this ‘we’re just business’ bullshit?”

“In Dante’s mind, as long as they haven’t slept together, it’s all innocent. He’s always believed he’s never betrayed our vows.”

Dante always held on to that one last line.

So, every time I got angry, he would always have that one line ready: 【There’s nothing going on between me and Izzy. The only thing dirty here is your mind! You see everything through a dirty lens.】 And I would be silenced.

Now, looking back at all of it, I’ve made my peace.

I reminded Sofia, “The movers will be here soon.”

Since Dante and I were getting a divorce, I had to go back to the estate and get my things.

After all, my mother’s heirlooms were still there.

“As long as you’ve thought it through.”

Sofia came with me, waiting for me by the door.

I had checked Isabella’s social media and knew Dante was out of town on business for a few days.

I didn’t think we would run into each other, but as soon as I pushed the door open, the smell of food wafted from the kitchen. When I got closer, I saw Isabella, sitting cross-legged at the dining table, eating shrimp scampi.

Seeing me, Isabella froze, like a child caught with her hand in the cookie jar. She immediately stood up and called out to me.

“Elara.”

I saw Isabella wearing my silk pajamas and my slippers. I saw the smile on Dante’s face freeze as he came out of the kitchen with a plate of food. Then, he spoke to me stiffly, “Have you eaten?”

I ignored Dante’s attempt at a peace offering and went straight to the bedroom.

And then I stopped dead.

The antique music boxes I kept neatly arranged on my nightstand were all in disarray. The bed was a mess, the walk-in closet had clearly been rummaged through, and even the safe hidden behind the painting had been opened.

My heart tightened. I instinctively went to check what was inside.

“Elara…”

The safe was empty.

Isabella, standing in the doorway, spoke in a voice so faint I could barely hear it. “I’m sorry. Dante and I lost our luggage on the way back. He told me to come here and grab some clothes to wear.”

“I accidentally… opened the safe…”

My mind went blank. I turned my head and saw the shattered pieces of a jade pendant in Isabella’s hand, and my breath caught in my throat.

“I really didn’t mean to.”

“Elara, I’m begging you!”

Isabella suddenly lunged at me, then dropped to her knees in front of me with a thud. She grabbed my arm and sobbed.

“Please, forgive me!”
