Chapter 1

"You're here to... kill yourself?"

My eyes fluttered open.

I saw a woman, strikingly beautiful, standing on the rocks.

She looked about my age.

"Are you...here too?"

I was taken aback.

She looked wealthy, judging by her clothes.

How could someone with so much money be thinking about suicide?

The sea wind howled, battering my face.

I heard her voice, thick with tears.

...

"My husband... he's going to die."

"I can't bear to watch him waste away in front of me, so I'm... I'm going to go first."

That was a coincidence.

Because that was also the reason I was going to end my life.

I was intrigued.

We began to talk, and I learned her name was Jane.

"Jane, what happened to your husband?"

"My husband has stomach cancer. The best hospital in town, the Westside Medical Center, couldn't help him. The doctors say he only has a week left, at most."

Her eyes were red.

I froze. Could there be such a chain of coincidences?

My husband was also at Westside Medical Center, and he also had stomach cancer.

"What's your husband's name?"

She wiped her tears.

"John Smith. Have you heard of the Smith Group? He's the CEO. It's just a pity that he's sick now."

My heart suddenly "thumped," as if I had missed a beat.

I took a few seconds to come to a conclusion—

Jane and I had the same husband.

But John Smith and I had been married for six years!

He had been deceiving me for a whole six years.

If Sherry and I hadn't met today, I would have died without knowing he had lied to me for six years!

"Are you okay?"

Jane nudged me.

I came back to my senses and realized that tears were already streaming down my face.

After all, I had spent so many years with John; we had a five-year-old son.

"I...I'm okay."

My voice was trembling.

"Jane, can you promise me something?"

"Don't... don't kill yourself."

"Don't ask anything, and I'll tell you everything."

Jane listened to me. She said that she was also afraid of dying alone.

So, she asked for my number and said she'd wait for my message before doing anything.

I nodded absentmindedly, then raced to the hospital as fast as I could.

On the way, I kept thinking about how John could have another woman.

After all, he was usually very good to me. And his friends all knew that the aloof CEO, John Smith, was only ever gentle to me.

Many years ago, he got hurt for me, and that's why I married him.

When I arrived at the hospital, John was lying in bed, scrolling through his phone.

When he saw me, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

"Stella, why are you back?"
